The destination : Toronto

Little description of Toronto

Toronto is the capital city of the province of Ontario and the largest city in Canada by population, with approximately 2,8 millions of residents. The diversity of the population living in Toronto reflects its historical role as a key destination for immigrants to Canada. In this context, 50% of residents belong to a minority group and over 200 distinct ethnic origins are represented. The first language spoken is English however over 160 languages are spoken in the city.

Toronto is the anchor of an urban agglomeration, known as the Golden Horseshoe in Southern Ontario, located on the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario.

Here are the three main reasons, according to us, to go to Toronto:

Tech and Jobs

Job opportunities grow as the city does. If one is looking to pursue a career in business, then this is the place to be. Entrepreneurs and startups are also very welcomed thanks to many incubators in town. Actually, Toronto is the country’s first start-up hub.

It is a region highly concentrated with tech companies comparable to the Silicon Valley (3rd largest center for information and communications technology in North America behind New York City and Silicon Valley) with 15,000 companies working in the technology sector. In this view, Microsoft has recently announced new headquarters in Toronto, that will lead to 60,000 new jobs.

Finally but not least, the city is Canada’s banking and financial capital and the home of its principle stock exchange, the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Culture

Toronto is considered as one of the most multicultural cities. There are communities like Chinatown, Little Italy, and Greektown. It is not suprise that Toronto’s motto is “Diversity our strength”.

Thanks to this cultural diversity wide range of cuisines, music genres, religious buildings and more all around the city can be found.

Nice, safe and welcoming !

Toronto is considered as the 7th most liveable city in the world by CNN. It is same regarding to its safety, as the Economist ranked it as the 4th safest city in the world.

Besides, there are plenty of things to do and visit in Toronto:

The CN tower which is the Toronto’s famous landmark (equivalent to the Eiffel Tower for Paris). There are also so many and various restaurants, over 6,000, (we’ll definitely taste the famous Poutine!), museums (the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto Gallery of Inuit Arts and the Gardiner Museum of Ceramic art). There are also countless of small galleries and some places where we can see street art such as Ossington Laneway, Bloor subway line, Parkdale… !

If you want to do something funnier or more original you can also throw an Axe or go and have a look to the Leslieville’s Crazy Doll House…. 😉
